Looking     towards     the     F   u   t   u   r   e

The bilingual environment is challenging but it’s one that Marianne Yayane Verbuyt has been embracing for years.

Learning to think in two languages, and having the ability to translate between them, is a wonderful skill. But having a comparative way of thinking culturally is the real benefit: it’s an invaluable asset for Millennial children in our global world.

Marianne has developed techniques to facilitate the learning of the French language in/for:

  • French Bilingual Schools

  • Dual Language programs

  • French as a Second Language programs

The goal of a bilingual school is to build bridges between cultures and communities. It’s also crucial to be able to negotiate the pragmatics of the two different systems of education and prepare students for the testing they will inevitably face when applying to high school and, later, college.

Through her professional experience, Marianne realized that all the pedagogy already in place had to be adapted to meet the needs of both students and teachers in bilingual classes. The importance of pedagogical training here would be essential for teachers to adapt their way of teaching.

Traditional teaching is based on an implicit oral baggage that a student acquires at a very young age. However, a child who does not have French as part of his or her daily life does not have this knowledge.

Marianne has developed techniques to facilitate the learning of the French language in bilingual schools by using different channels: visual, kinesthetic and auditory.

Marianne offers complete pedagogical training courses to accompany the teacher and bring the student, from an early age, to build bridges with his or her own knowledge:

  • The Borel Maisonny gestural method:

This method consists of accompanying each phoneme with a gesture. For example, the phoneme "o" will be signed in the same way despite all possible spellings. English speaking students will have a visual representation of a sound that is not present in their language.

The Borel Maisonny method associates phonetic gestures to letters and sounds to facilitate the learning process of spelling and pronunciation.

  • Symbolic and comparative grammar:

Each word class is represented by a specific shape and color.

Symbolic grammar makes it possible to appropriate the nature of words, to give a progressive writing structure to the learner by adapting to his or her level, and makes it possible to make comparisons in languages.

  • The prosody of the language:

This will allow you to understand the rhythm of the French language and help students achieve a higher reading level.

  • Conjugation:

Marianne proposes another logic for learning verbs according to their group and the order of the tenses to be addressed.

The use of flashcards is useful to work on the affirmative form, the negative form, the pronominal form, the simple and compound tenses and the auxiliaries to use.

  • Tools applied to the study of a youth album:

Marianne proposes a methodology for using children's books as a learning tool for Cycle 1 and Cycle 2.

  • Creation of progression and programming:

We help you set up the progression of grammar and conjugation notions as well as their programming over the school year. This work is done in collaboration with the teaching staff and is adapted to their needs and requests.

Testimonial

" I have never met a pedagogue as brilliant as Yayane Verbuyt. The way she talks about every single one of her students, and the passion with which she motivates them is absolutely unique. Yayane is fully devoted to her students, whom she knows how to bring out the best potential, guiding them to achieve the best results possible. To this day, her pedagogical approach has revolutionized every institute and school she has worked with.

I was lucky to collaborate with her on several occasions, her methods have become a quotidian source of inspiration in my own work as a teacher and pedagogical counselor. "

We have had the privilege of meeting with teachers from the schools below. We have worked  with them on improving their practice and meeting the needs of students with different language backgrounds who are in the same classroom.
